Eligibility
TRL is a developing sport and as the game grows and evolves, so does the eligibility criteria for our various elite Events.
A key underlying pillar of TRL (generally) and all representative TRL is that players respect the principles of fair play and embody this philosophy when choosing what team to nominate for and represent. Whilst TRL Australia will do its best to police eligibility rules, it is not an Organisation with infinite resources to apply to this endeavour. If in doubt, players should email hello@trl.com.au to discuss eligibility questions.
QLD, NSW/VIC and Australian Championships
- Location: To play for any region or sub-region, you must be playing TRL in that region or sub-region within 6 months of the Event.
- Premier League v Cup: For Men’s and Mixed, a player cannot play across Premier League and Cup within the same Tournament. (For the purposes of clarity, Men’s 30s is equivalent to Cup; female players within both Mixed Cup and Premier League can play Women’s as well).
- Region Participation: Players cannot play across two different regions.
World Cup
- Nation Participation: Players must only play for one Country/Nation unless given prior permission from TRL Australia, otherwise. [Players may be allowed to play for multiple Nations in exceptional circumstances but this must be approved by TRL Australia and in advance of the Tournament].
- Heritage – participants – pick and stick rule: If you have previously represented a particular Country/Nation you cannot nominate for another Country/Nation unless you have been given permission to do so by TRL Australia or if you have been selected for Australia.
- Heritage – newly formed Nations/Entities: For each team, there must be a minimum of 5 players that have lineage to a particular Country/Nation. Lineage is defined as birthplace, parent’s birthplace or grand-parent’s birthplace.
- Heritage – existing Nations/Entities: We will apply a pragmatic approach in determining eligibility for Nations that have previous history at Tournaments. We will balance the need for heritage legitimacy with the legacy that has been created already.
- Premier League v Cup: For Men’s and Mixed, a player cannot play across Premier League and Cup within the same Tournament. (For the purposes of clarity, Men’s 30s is equivalent to Cup; female players within both Mixed Cup and Premier League can play Women’s as well).
State of Origin
- NSW Birthplace: Any player born outside of QLD automatically qualifies for NSW.
- QLD Birthplace: Any player born in QLD and which plays in QLD qualifies for QLD (unless they have previously nominated or played for NSW by virtue of the below).
- NSW Participation: Any player that has participated in a competition within any State other than QLD is eligible for NSW.
- QLD Participation: Any player that has participated in a competition within QLD, not born in NSW, played for NSW or nominated for NSW previously is eligble.
- Pick and Stick: Any player that makes themselves available for NSW by virtue of birthplace or participation cannot cross back to QLD. A player that is eligible for QLD whom then makes themselves eligible for NSW will forever be only eligible for NSW.
- Premier League v Cup: QLD players will generally be picked from Premier League sides competing at other Events.
City v Country (QLD)
- Participation: Any player that plays for North, South, East or West Brisbane will be eligible for City. Any player playing in any other QLD competition is eligible for Country.
- Premier League v Cup: Players will only be picked from Premier League sides competing at other Events.
