TRL Heads to Penrith

When people think Penrith, they think Rugby League and so the inaugural Touch Rugby League Sydney Cash Cup just had to take place in Penrith!

On March 2, the best social teams from across Australia will head to Boronia Park, St Marys (Penrith) for a one day tournament, to compete for cash prizes totaling $1,500. It will be an incredible opportunity for TRL to grow its presence in Sydney and particularly, the Penrith region as Tom Longworth (CEO, TRL Australia) states:

“The Sydney Cash Cup is a tremendous opportunity for the game of TRL to establish itself in the Penrith region and we are extremely grateful to the Penrith City Council for allowing this dream to become a reality. We believe this Event will become a staple for the best social TRL teams in the Country year on year.”

TRL is now played by up to 1000 adult teams each week across Australia. It is a game that incorporates Rugby League rules such as kicking and proper play-the-balls creating a dynamic game that best mimics the rules of full contact Rugby League (when compared to other codes).

Penrith is a City that provides significant tourist attractions from Neapean River cruises, to a plethora of museums and a bustling social scene. Aside from the high level TRL competition, there will be plenty of activities available for players and spectators alike.

Penrith Mayor, Todd Carney said Council is thrilled to support this much-loved social sport:
“We are committed to supporting events like Touch Rugby League that promotes active lifestyles and inclusive community participation at all levels,” Cr Carney said. “There is so much to see and do in the local St Marys area and in Penrith, so we encourage our visitors to explore, grab a bite to eat and enjoy the many great offerings around our City.”

Participants can go online to Visit Penrith for a comprehensive list of what to do and where to eat.
