The 2024 Sydney Cash Cup – Report

The inaugural 2024 Sydney Cash Cup was held at Boronia Park, St Marys (Penrith) on Saturday 2 March.

The exciting and action-packed tournament was fiercely contested and featured Touch Rugby League teams from across New South Wales and Queensland’s Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Men’s and Mixed each competed for cash prizes totaling $1,500.

In the Men’s Division, the Panthers and Shutdown were the two standout teams so it was only fitting that they battled it out in the Grand Final, with the Panthers winning an epic finale 5-4 in arguably the match of the tournament. In the Mixed Division, the Panthers went through undefeated in the pool matches and took on a spirited Minto Mixed Orange Team in the big dance, however it was the Panthers who proved too strong in the end despite a late fightback.

TRL Australia’s CEO, Tom Longworth was thrilled with the 2024 Sydney Cash Cup stating that “This tournament has provided TRL with an amazing opportunity to showcase our great game and grow its presence in the Penrith region. We would like to thank the Penrith City Council for their wonderful support in making this possible and would also like to thank all participants in making history in what was an unforgettable and highly successful event”.

A huge congratulations to the Panthers on being crowned the Men’s and Mixed Champions.

TRL is now played by up to 1000 adult teams each week across Australia so it was incredibly exciting to take this game to a new area (Penrith). There is no doubt TRL can grow in this region and establish itself in the years to come.
